Royal Blue- Pure Silk Handwoven Tribal Dongria

Radnyee brings an exclusive tribal weave from the basket of Dongria Kondh tribe of Odisha. Pure mulberry Silk Dongria sarees which are inspired by traditional Dongria embroidery art.

Dongria Kondh Tribe is a tribe of indigenous people nestled between an area of densely forested Niyamgiri hills of Rayagada and Kalahandi district in Eastern Odisha.This local tribe weave a unique prestigious shawl/saree known as “Kapadagonda”, embroidered with colourful motifs and designs on both sides using traditional threads and cloth. ‘Dongr” means ‘field on mountains” and the triangular shaped motifs and tamarind leaf shaped motif reflects importance of mountains for the community.

Recently, Nuapatna and Sambalpuri weavers incorporated this into full length sarees in both cotton and silk, and we call them ‘Dongria Sarees’. The weavers painstakingly make geometric shapes on anchal and borders by dobby, jaala and buti (hand work).
